Chairman CDA, PTF President Discuss Plans to Promote Tennis in Islamabad

The Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, met with Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi to discuss joint efforts to promote tennis in Islamabad, enhance local tennis infrastructure, and provide advanced training opportunities for emerging players. The meeting focused on upgrading tennis courts, launching talent hunt programs, and fostering a sports-friendly environment in the city.

During the meeting at the CDA headquarters, both sides agreed that the CDA would provide substantial support to PTF for the refurbishment and upgrading of the PTF tennis courts near Islamabad’s sports complex. The CDA’s Sports and Culture Directorate was directed to collaborate with PTF for a detailed survey and to prepare a comprehensive feasibility report. Based on this, a formal Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between CDA and PTF Islamabad, which will pave the way for talent development programmes, new court construction, and the introduction of international-standard coaching for local athletes.

The meeting also highlighted CDA’s successful auctioning of five grounds for paddle courts in Islamabad, generating a monthly income of Rs. 7.6 million. These funds are earmarked for the construction and development of new paddle tennis courts, driving further growth in racquet sports.

Chairman Randhawa reaffirmed CDA’s commitment to making Islamabad a sports-friendly city by creating investment opportunities across various sports sectors. He emphasized efforts to promote tennis by constructing, upgrading, and equipping tennis courts with modern facilities, particularly in student-populated sectors. The goal is to foster healthy activities among the youth and empower them to compete at both national and international levels, enhancing Pakistan’s reputation in the sport.

PTF President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi commended the CDA’s successful leadership and expressed optimism that the partnership would help transform Islamabad into a tennis-friendly city. Representatives from the Pakistan Tennis Federation added that this collaboration would benefit not only players, but also parents and educational institutions, enabling greater community involvement in sports.

Looking ahead, the CDA-PTF partnership envisions organizing coaching camps, training workshops, inter-school and inter-college tournaments, and national-level tennis competitions in Islamabad, providing a comprehensive platform for talent development and sports excellence.
