**UNHCR Delegation Visits SHARP Lahore Office to Review Refugee Protection Efforts**

A delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) visited the Lahore office of the Society for Human Rights and Prisoners’ Aid (SHARP) to discuss ongoing initiatives and challenges related to the protection of Afghan refugees. The meeting focused on collaborative efforts to bolster legal aid, address urgent community needs, and improve access to justice in the region.

Representing UNHCR, Senior Protection Officer Mr. Richard Grindle and Field Assistant Officer Mr. Yasir Ayaz were received warmly by the ALAC II team. During the visit, SHARP’s Field Manager, Ms. Arooj-un-Nisa, and lawyer Ms. Farzana Kouser provided a detailed briefing on SHARP’s ongoing protection interventions as well as its mid-year achievements. They also highlighted key legal challenges confronting Afghan refugees in the Lahore Area of Responsibility (AOR), ranging from documentation issues to barriers in accessing essential services.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both organizations to exchange views on reducing protection gaps faced by refugees and to explore strategies to enhance future support mechanisms. Specific focus was given to ALAC II’s ongoing work in providing legal assistance and responding promptly to urgent concerns within the refugee community.

The UNHCR delegation commended SHARP for its sustained commitment to promoting refugee rights and strengthening legal empowerment. Both sides reaffirmed their dedication to continued collaboration in support of vulnerable communities in Lahore.
