**Pakistan and Nepal Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Bilateral Ties at Global Parliamentary Conference**
Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nepal, Devraj Ghimire, met on the sidelines of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva to reinforce the longstanding and cordial relations between their countries. The high-level meeting took place during the event organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), highlighting the mutual commitment to expanding cooperation in various spheres.
During their discussions, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the current state of Pakistan-Nepal relations, underpinned by mutual respect, shared regional interests, and robust people-to-people connections. Chairman Gilani reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing partnership with Nepal, with particular focus on parliamentary diplomacy, trade, education, tourism, and cultural exchange.
Both sides acknowledged the critical importance of dialogue and collaboration in promoting peace and inclusive development within the region. They also pledged joint efforts on key issues such as climate change, disaster resilience, and advancement towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
Speaker Devraj Ghimire thanked Pakistan for offering scholarships to Nepalese students, noting that these educational opportunities serve as a foundation for stronger people-to-people ties and long-term bilateral engagement.
To further foster parliamentary cooperation, Chairman Gilani invited Speaker Ghimire to participate in the upcoming Speakers Conference scheduled to be held in Islamabad. The invitation was warmly accepted by the Nepalese Speaker, signaling a continued trajectory of close cooperation between the parliaments of both countries.
