The event gathered professionals, economists, and students for an in-depth discussion on the federal budget’s key initiatives and implications.

During his keynote address, Mr. Schehzad praised ICMA Pakistan for its comprehensive publication, noting that such initiatives are crucial for increasing public understanding of economic policies. He stressed the importance of equipping the youth with economic knowledge for both personal advancement and the country’s development. Mr. Schehzad also urged the institute to continue sharing expert policy feedback to help guide government decision-making with practical, on-the-ground insights.

Emphasizing the transition to a knowledge-based economy, Mr. Schehzad suggested that ICMA Pakistan establish an incubation center to foster innovation in accounting and create opportunities for students to collaborate with investors. He promised the institute complete support for these initiatives from both the government and himself.

Discussing highlights of the new budget, Mr. Schehzad stated that the government’s priority remains relief and recovery, with special attention given to the salaried class to promote fairness. Measures in the budget include affordable housing, increased financing for women-led startups, improved support for small and medium enterprises, and a gradual reduction of import duties over the next five years to boost exports and competitiveness. He further pointed out that Pakistan’s international credit ratings have seen an improvement, indicating reduced economic risk.

The launch ceremony concluded with a question and answer session, after which Mr. Shahid Anwar, Director Research at ICMA, presented a token of appreciation to Mr. Schehzad.
