The SHARP team in Timergara has organized a successful workshop in Batkhela aimed at enhancing the capacity of 34 Levies officials. The training focused on improving participants’ understanding of human rights, international protection, and legal frameworks relevant to the needs of displaced Afghan populations in the region.
During the workshop, officials took part in a series of sessions that outlined the mandates of SHARP and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The agenda also included overviews of national and international human rights laws, key legislation such as the Juvenile Justice System Act 2018, and the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Act 2022. Additionally, participants received targeted instruction on international protection mechanisms to help strengthen their legal knowledge and response skills.
Key SHARP staff members facilitated the training, including Field Manager Farhat Bibi, Lawyer Noman Rahim, and Protection Officer Salman Farooq. Their presentations and interactive discussions encouraged the officials to share experiences and deepen their practical understanding of the subjects covered.
The event was attended by several prominent local officials, including Deputy Commissioner Hameed Ur Rehman as Chief Guest, Assistant Deputy Commissioner Muheeb Ullah, Assistant Commissioners Hania Shah and Shaista Gul Khattak, and Subedar Major Samiullah Khan. Their participation underscored the importance of institutional support in building the capacity of local law enforcement agencies.
