Officers from the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) have completed a specialized five-day training at the Sindh Judicial Academy, aimed at improving environmental law enforcement across Sindh. The training, attended by 20 SEPA officers, focused on key topics such as environmental legislation, judicial procedures, and the mechanisms necessary for effective compliance and prosecution.
Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro, Director General of the Sindh Judicial Academy, highlighted the importance of regular patrolling of factories to monitor environmental compliance. He called for this to become a legal obligation and urged SEPA to work closely with the judiciary to implement tougher measures against industrial polluters. Justice Kalhoro also raised concerns about the negative effects of unchecked industrial emissions, vehicle pollution, and non-operational treatment plants on public health and the environment.
Waqar Hussain Phulpoto, Director General of SEPA, expressed confidence that the newly acquired skills would empower officers to more effectively prosecute environmental crimes and enhance public health protections. The program concluded with the distribution of certificates and shields to the successful participants, acknowledging their dedication to safeguarding Sindh’s environment.
