Members of New York’s Pakistani community gathered in Brooklyn to celebrate Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day, showcasing a strong sense of unity and national pride. Organized by the Pak American Society (PAS USA), the event drew people from diverse backgrounds and featured tributes to Pakistan’s armed forces and their achievements.
Deputy Consul General of Pakistan, Umar Sheikh, attended the festivities on behalf of Consul General Aamer Ahmed Atozai. Delivering remarks to the crowd, Sheikh conveyed the Consul General’s greetings and recognized the continued support of the Pakistani-American community. He highlighted Pakistan’s recent victory in Operation “Bunyan al Marsous” against India, describing it as a testament to the courage, professionalism, and determination of Pakistan’s armed forces, as well as the resilience of the Pakistani people.
Honoring the sacrifices made by soldiers and veterans, the Deputy Consul General stressed the ongoing importance of peace, stability, and national unity as core priorities for Pakistan. Children gave patriotic speeches, and community leaders delivered messages focused on unity and civic responsibility. Several speakers praised the dedication of Pakistan’s armed forces and emphasized the important role that overseas Pakistanis play in the country’s progress through education, investment, philanthropy, and by fostering a positive image of Pakistan abroad.
The organizers expressed gratitude to the Deputy Consul General for his engagement, acknowledging the Consulate General’s ongoing support for the Pakistani community in New York. The ceremony ended with prayers for Pakistan’s peace and prosperity, alongside chants of “Pakistan Zindabad,” as attendees reaffirmed their commitment to unity and the vision of a stronger, more prosperous Pakistan.
