Louisiana’s attorney general has filed a lawsuit against the online gaming platform Roblox, accusing the company of failing to protect children from predators and harmful content. The legal action claims Roblox allowed young users access to inappropriate and sexually explicit material, highlighting games such as “Escape to Epstein Island” that were labeled as suitable for all ages despite containing adult themes.

Attorney General Liz Murrill alleged that Roblox prioritized profits and user growth over the safety of its young users, describing it as “the perfect place for pedophiles.” Murrill urged parents to recognize the dangers children may face on the platform, which is particularly popular among minors, with over a third of its 111.8 million daily users under the age of 13.

The lawsuit accuses Roblox of enabling predators by failing to verify user ages effectively and not implementing sufficient safeguards. It cites evidence from reports alleging that thousands of accounts were involved in trading explicit material and soliciting sexual acts from minors. Additionally, the complaint states that Roblox did not provide adequate warnings to parents and children about these potential dangers.

Roblox has denied the allegations, stating that claims of deliberately endangering children are “categorically untrue.” The company highlighted its safety protocols, such as blocking the sharing of personal information, links, and images between users. Roblox acknowledged that some offenders attempt to circumvent these measures by directing young users off the platform, but emphasized the introduction of over 40 new child safety features in the past year.

Despite the company’s assurances, the lawsuit accuses Roblox’s platform design of allowing games with explicit content to be misclassified as suitable for all ages, making it easier for minors to encounter harmful material. The attorney general contends that this approach was intentional, designed to increase platform engagement and revenue at the expense of child safety.

The attorney general is seeking a permanent injunction to prevent Roblox from misrepresenting its safety features and to compel the company to comply with Louisiana’s consumer protection laws. The controversy has drawn national attention, with California Representative Ro Khanna launching a petition calling for stronger safety protections for Roblox users.
