Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, met with officers participating in the 38th Senior Management Course to discuss Pakistan’s strategy for tackling the impacts of climate change. The session focused on government efforts in agriculture, food security, and water management, emphasizing the importance of building resilience in these crucial sectors.
Dr. Malik informed the delegation about ongoing mitigation and adaptation initiatives led by the Ministry, particularly those aimed at securing sustainable food systems for the country’s population. He highlighted the government’s focus on supporting climate-sensitive areas, aiming to minimize the risks posed by environmental changes.
A significant portion of the discussion addressed the country’s pressing challenges of water scarcity and low water productivity. Dr. Malik underlined how these issues threaten national food security and called for the adoption of innovative, locally-tailored solutions to enhance efficiency in water use and improve agricultural yields.
The meeting also highlighted the necessity of practical, on-the-ground actions at the tehsil and district levels to strengthen adaptation and resilience. Dr. Malik stressed the vital role of local administration and communities, encouraging them to take concrete steps that align with national objectives for climate action and food security. He concluded by reiterating that meaningful progress in climate resilience and food security can only be achieved by empowering local stakeholders and fostering collaborative efforts across all levels of governance.
