Pakistan’s Polio Eradication Drive and Regional Collaboration

Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal met with UNICEF Country Representative Pernille Ironside to discuss key public health issues facing Pakistan. The discussion focused on population management, maternal and child healthcare, and the ongoing efforts to eradicate polio.

During the meeting, the Health Minister emphasized that Pakistan and Afghanistan remain the only two countries in the world where polio persists. He shared plans to visit Afghanistan with the aim of strengthening coordinated efforts to eliminate the disease from the region.

Syed Mustafa Kamal highlighted the Ministry of Health’s commitment to prioritizing preventive care for the population, stressing that prevention is always better than cure. He reiterated the government’s resolve to protect people from illness through proactive public health measures and by working in close collaboration with international partners like UNICEF.
