Pakistani Runners Shine at Seychelles Nature Trail Challenge

Pakistani athletes delivered a standout performance at the Seychelles Nature Trail Challenge 2025, earning international acclaim as they conquered one of the region’s toughest mountain races. Waqar Ahmed from Chitral led the contingent by taking first place on the demanding 22-kilometer course, completing it in 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 30 seconds, and highlighting Pakistan’s rising prominence in global endurance sports.

Umer Zaman of Islamabad followed with a strong second-place finish, clocking in at 2 hours and 14 minutes. Muzammil Shahzad, also from Islamabad, narrowly missed the podium, claiming fourth place overall. These results underscored Pakistan’s strong presence among an international field of competitors.

Pakistani women also made their mark in the event. Anum Uzair from Lahore emerged as the fastest Pakistani woman, navigating the challenging trail in 4 hours and 24 minutes. Neelab Kayani of Islamabad was next across the line among her compatriots, with Zaira Syed also earning praise for successfully finishing the race and exemplifying determination and perseverance.

The grueling event drew participation from nine Pakistani athletes, including media figures who achieved notable milestones. Senior journalist Raja Mohsin Ijaz completed his first marathon on the arduous terrain, drawing wide acclaim for his accomplishment. Sports journalist Faizan Lakhani also finished the course, further enhancing the Pakistani team’s achievements.

Their successes were celebrated in Pakistan, with Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar commending all the athletes for bringing honor to the nation. He highlighted the impressive performances by both male and female participants, emphasizing Pakistan’s reservoir of talent and resilience.

Minister Tarar gave special recognition to the women athletes, praising Anum Uzair, Neelab Kayani, and Zaira Syed for their role in elevating Pakistan’s profile on the international stage.

The smooth organization of the Seychelles Nature Trail Challenge received positive feedback from participants, who credited the Seychelles Tourism Department and Vagatales, along with its CEO, for their exceptional hospitality and event management.

For Pakistan, this event was not just a sporting contest but a moment of national pride, as the tenacity and spirit of its runners won admiration on the rugged trails of Seychelles and beyond.
