Vice Chairperson of the Punjab Social Protection Authority, Jahan Ara Manzoor Wattoo, visited the Primary Healthcare Hospital operated under the Zarya Begum Foundation, where she received a warm welcome. During her visit, she reviewed the medical facilities provided for mothers and children at the hospital and expressed satisfaction with the standards of care.
Speaking on the occasion, Wattoo highlighted that the Punjab government is taking concrete steps to improve maternal and child health through the Aghosh Program. This initiative operates in 13 districts across the province and offers conditional financial assistance to pregnant and breastfeeding women. She described the program as a modern and revolutionary model, designed not just to ensure access to medical facilities but also to provide quality nutrition to women.
Wattoo elaborated that, under the Aghosh Program, each registered woman receives phased payments totaling 23,000 rupees. These funds are intended to cover essential maternal needs, including medical check-ups during pregnancy, safe delivery, and necessary vaccinations, ensuring women do not miss out on critical healthcare services. The support is provided in partnership with the Department of Primary and Secondary Healthcare, focusing on rural areas and basic health centers to significantly improve health indicators for mothers and children.
At the conclusion of her visit, the Vice Chairperson commended the Zarya Begum Foundation for its valuable services and expressed her gratitude for their ongoing support.
