Dr. Imran Younus, Associate Professor of Public Health and Epidemiologist, recently met with Dr. Dapeng Luo, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Pakistan, to discuss strengthening the country’s public health capacity. The two experts focused on developing national teams with enhanced skills in epidemiology, supported by the Health Services Academy (HSA) in Islamabad, to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of Pakistan’s healthcare response.
During their meeting, Dr. Younus and Dr. Luo agreed on the importance of specialized training for epidemiologists, especially through distance learning programs tailored for modern, future-oriented skills. This initiative aims to equip healthcare professionals to better address emerging health challenges, bridging gaps in data science and digital surveillance.
Their collaboration seeks to address the ongoing workforce shortage in epidemiology by ensuring the next generation of professionals are well-prepared and self-reliant. Both leaders emphasized the critical role of continued education in building robust, sustainable teams capable of tackling Pakistan’s public health needs.
