Ambassador Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, held a meeting with the Thai Ambassador to Pakistan, His Excellency Mr. Rongvudhi Virabutr, at the Thai Embassy in Islamabad. The talks focused on enhancing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, particularly through the promotion of women’s leadership and empowerment.
During the meeting, Ambassador Khar informed Ambassador Virabutr about the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC), a newly formed forum aimed at fostering dialogue and collaboration among parliaments across the globe. She highlighted that the ISC now includes 45 Speakers of national parliaments and noted the recent unanimous election of Pakistan’s Chairman Senate, Mr. Yousuf Raza Gillani, as its first President. Ambassador Khar extended a formal invitation to the Speaker of the Thai Parliament to participate in the upcoming ISC session in Islamabad, which will focus on the theme “Peace, Security, and Development.”
The discussion placed special emphasis on the vital role of women in leadership and the need to further women’s empowerment. Ambassador Khar reiterated Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to advancing women’s representation in decision-making roles and stressed the importance of platforms like the ISC in giving women a stronger voice in parliamentary diplomacy. She underscored the necessity of encouraging women to join the workforce and participate actively in society. In response, Ambassador Virabutr expressed his support for initiatives that promote women’s leadership and empowerment, agreeing on the importance of international collaboration in this area.
Ambassador Khar further assured her counterpart of Pakistan’s full support for shared objectives related to gender equality. She highlighted the Senate of Pakistan’s efforts in passing legislation to promote women’s empowerment and ensure their meaningful participation in national development.
Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral parliamentary ties and cooperating on initiatives to advance gender equality, with Ambassador Khar expressing readiness for close and ongoing collaboration.
