Abubakar Talha clinched both the boys’ U-18 singles and doubles crowns at the Aitchison College Junior National Tennis Championship 2025 held at Aitchison College on Mall Road, Lahore. Representing SA Gardens and studying at FG School Abid Majeed, Lahore Cantt, Abubakar dominated the singles final with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Ahtesham Humayun and then partnered with Amir Mazari to defeat the pair of Ahtesham Humayun and Zohaib Afzal Malik 6-3, 7-5 in the doubles final.
Abubakar Talha’s twin titles underlined his rising stature in junior tennis and reflected disciplined training and technical consistency that mark him as one to watch for national selection in coming years. The championship, organized under the auspices of the Punjab Lawn Tennis Association, gathered promising junior talent from across the region.
In the Girls’ U-18 final, Bismal Zia produced a commanding performance to beat Fajar Fayyaz 6-1, 6-0 and lift the title. The Boys’ U-16 match reserved for Aitchison students saw M. Umar Ali run out a 6-0 winner over Aryaan Hassan, showcasing strong court control and aggression.
Youth talent also featured in the U-14 bracket where Shayan Afridi beat Muhammad Muaz 4-0, 4-1 to win the singles and then teamed with Zohaib Amjad to claim the doubles over M. Umar Ali and Ahmad Fareed Yawar by the same scoreline. The Girls’ U-14 final was taken by Hajra Sohail who overcame Bismal Zia 4-2, 4-1.
At U-12 level, Shayan Afridi again prevailed in the boys’ singles with a 4-0, 4-2 win against Muhammad Muaz, while the U-12 doubles title went to Muhammad Muaz and Muhammad Aayan, who beat M. Daniyal (KPK) and Muhammad Faizan 4-1, 4-2. The Girls’ U-12 final ended with Aiman Rehan defeating Khadija Khalil 5-4, 3-3 (Retired). The mixed U-10 final saw Salman Pirzada secure the title with a 6-2 victory over Daniyal Abdullah.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Dr. S.M. Turab Hussain, Principal of Aitchison College Lahore, who presented trophies to winners and runners-up and praised the competitors for their commitment. He commended the Punjab Lawn Tennis Association and Aitchison College management for hosting the event and for fostering grassroots tennis development in Pakistan.
Tournament operations were overseen by ITF certified coach and referee Sajjad Rasul, with Rashid Malik as Tournament Director and Faheem Siddiqui as Tournament Coordinator. Their combined efforts ensured smooth scheduling and fair play throughout the championship, allowing talents like Abubakar Talha to shine on Lahore’s courts.
Aitchison College continues to play a significant role in promoting school-level sport, providing facilities and a competitive platform that contribute to the development of Pakistan’s next generation of tennis players.
