Acting under the banner of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s drive for an adulteration-free Punjab, officials sealed a counterfeit spices unit on Nisbat Road after a targeted operation by Punjab Food Authority teams. Authorities recovered 48,000kg of adulterated spices alongside 10,000kg of counterfeit packaging material and 11 machines used to process and repackage the products for distribution.
DG PFA Asim Javaid, speaking to the media, said an FIR has been lodged and the accused have been arrested. He described the haul as evidence of an organised effort to supply adulterated spices into the market and said continued vigilance is necessary to protect consumers across Punjab.
The discovery prompted renewed scrutiny over earlier PFA inaction amid the CM’s campaign for safer food supplies. Officials emphasised that the seizure will be followed by laboratory tests and enforcement actions to ensure adulterated spices do not reach retailers or consumers.
Investigators have confiscated machinery and packaging to trace distribution channels and prosecute those responsible. The DG urged consumers to report suspicious products and reiterated the authority’s commitment to eliminating adulteration across the province.
