Crack Down on Water Wastage in Islamabad

The civic agency in Islamabad has decided to take strict legal action against those who waste water as part of their conservation plan. City managers have observed that during the summer season, some individuals engage in activities such as washing their cars with drinking water or allowing water to overflow into the streets, causing a shortage of water in the city.

However, the current laws only permit a maximum fine of Rs5,000 for such water wastage. This punishment has proven to be ineffective in the past, especially in the posh sectors where residents can easily pay the fine and continue their wasteful practices.

To address this issue, the city managers plan to increase fines from Rs5,000 to Rs25,000 for repeat offenders and form special teams to issue notices to those who waste water.

Challans of repeat offenders will be sent to the CDA magistrate, who will impose more fines and take necessary actions according to existing laws. A government official urges residents to comply with CDA Municipal bylaws and avoid wasting clean drinking water.
