The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and Alibaba have strengthened their collaboration to boost e-commerce growth and empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Pakistan. This commitment was reaffirmed during the GLOBE Pakistan Summit, where key leaders from Alibaba and Pakistani authorities discussed strategies to enhance digital commerce opportunities, particularly for SMEs.

James Dong, President of the International Market at Alibaba International Digital Commerce Group, visited Pakistan at TDAP’s special invitation to participate in the GLOBE Pakistan Summit. At the summit’s inaugural forum and high-level panel discussion, Mr. Dong presented Alibaba’s global insights into digital commerce and its effective role in promoting economic growth in emerging markets such as Pakistan. He emphasized Alibaba’s commitment to enabling SMEs and supporting their integration into the global digital economy.

Prior to the summit, Mr. Dong met individually with Mr. Faiz Ahmed Chadhar, Chief Executive of TDAP, to explore strategic collaborations aimed at boosting the nation’s digital trade capabilities. During the summit, they held further exclusive conversations to identify pathways to enhance digital trading infrastructure, with particular focus on SMEs’ onboarding and capacity-building through specialized platforms such as Daraz, Alibaba’s prominent subsidiary operating effectively in Pakistan.

Following the summit activities, Mr. Dong called on Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for a detailed conversation regarding Alibaba’s ongoing support to the country’s e-commerce sector and its contributions to SME growth. This strategic discussion was attended by several key government representatives, including Minister for IT Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Secretary Commerce Mr. Jawad Paul, Chief Executive TDAP Mr. Faiz Ahmed Chadhar, and Secretary IT Mr. Zarar Khan.

This renewed partnership between TDAP and Alibaba underlines Pakistan’s efforts to harness digital innovation and global e-commerce platforms to empower SMEs, expand trade opportunities, and accelerate the country’s economic progress.
