Allama Iqbal Scholarships bring 25 Sri Lankan medical scholars to Karachi for fully funded MBBS programs recognized by the SLMC.

Twenty-five Sri Lankan medical scholars have arrived in Karachi under the Allama Iqbal Scholarships to begin fully funded MBBS programs at leading Pakistani institutions.

The Higher Education Commission is overseeing these placements, which place students at prominent medical universities including Dow University of Health Sciences and Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences. The Allama Iqbal Scholarships fund tuition and related support to ensure scholars can focus on their medical studies.

Degrees earned through these programmes will be recognised by the Sri Lankan Medical Council (SLMC), enabling graduates to pursue professional registration back home. This recognition is a key reassurance for students and families considering overseas medical training.

Pakistan already hosts more than 430 Sri Lankan students across multiple disciplines, and around 100 additional scholars are expected to arrive in the coming weeks. The continued arrivals reflect growing educational cooperation and demand for medical training opportunities in Pakistan.

Officials say the initiative not only expands access to medical education but also strengthens long-standing educational and diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka under the Allama Iqbal Scholarships framework.
