U.S. Consul General Charles Goodman visited the Sindh Institute of Advanced Gastroenterology in Karachi to showcase a new obesity treatment introduced by American medical device maker Boston Scientific, highlighting reported health improvements among patients and underscoring ongoing U.S.-Pakistan collaboration in health technology.

During the visit, Consul General Goodman and local physicians discussed the clinical introduction of Boston Scientific’s obesity treatment at the institute. The session emphasized how advanced medical technologies from the United States are being adopted in Pakistani healthcare settings to expand treatment options for patients.

Patients who have undergone the procedure reported overall health improvements and said they are now able to participate in more physical activity than before. Clinicians on site described the new option as a valuable addition to existing obesity management strategies, complementing diet, exercise, and medical care.

U.S. officials framed the initiative as part of broader American innovation efforts that strengthen communities, create opportunities, and deepen bilateral ties between the United States and Pakistan. The event served as an example of how private-sector technology and public health institutions can collaborate to improve patient outcomes.

The U.S. Consulate in Karachi also invited input on other areas of U.S.-Pakistan cooperation in science and technology that might be highlighted, signaling interest in expanding collaborative initiatives across research, health, and technology sectors.
