The Women Development Studies Center at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi held a Pink Ribbon Day seminar to strengthen breast cancer awareness among students, staff and the wider campus community. Organisers underlined the role of regular screenings, self-examinations and early diagnosis in improving survival rates and treatment outcomes.
Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman urged that breast cancer awareness must extend beyond a single annual campaign and become a sustained campus priority focused on prevention, early detection and education. He highlighted that lifestyle choices are important in reducing risk and called for structured outreach to ensure women know how and when to seek screening.
Dr. Qaisara Parveen, director of the Women Development Studies Center, stressed the need to inform not only patients but also their families so that no woman faces the diagnosis alone and receives emotional and practical support. The seminar included practical guidance on self-examination and information on where to access screening services locally.
The event concluded with an awareness walk that brought together the vice chancellor, registrar, deans, directors, faculty members, administration staff and a large number of students across the Rawalpindi campus. Organisers said the walk and seminar are part of ongoing efforts to embed breast cancer awareness in university programmes and community outreach.
