The ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI) convened at Myanmar House to outline upcoming activities for the latter half of the year and finalize arrangements for the ASEAN Day celebrations. During the meeting, the ambassadorship-based chairmanship of the ACI was formally transferred from Myanmar to Thailand, with the Ambassador of Thailand to Pakistan assuming the role of committee chair in a ceremony attended by senior diplomatic officials.
The committee’s discussions focused on strategic planning and coordination of ACI’s initiatives for the remainder of the year, demonstrating continued commitment to the promotion of ASEAN collaboration in Pakistan. Preparations for the forthcoming ASEAN Day celebrations comprised a central part of the agenda, emphasizing the importance of cultural and diplomatic engagement within the ASEAN community.
In a key highlight of the gathering, the Ambassador of Myanmar, serving as outgoing ACI Chair, formally handed over the position to the Ambassador of Thailand. The transition was conducted in the presence of H.E. Ms. Amna Baloch, Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, underlining the event’s diplomatic significance. The incoming chair pledged to further enhance regional cooperation and strengthen ASEAN-Pakistan relations during the new term.
