ISLAMABAD, July 22: Federal Minister Aurangzeb Khan Khichi unveiled the revised first three volumes of the historic Urdu dictionary at a ceremony organised by the National Language Promotion Department under the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture.
The event was attended by a large number of scholarly, literary and official personalities.
On the occasion, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the federal minister and Dr Haji Muhammad Rafiq Pardesi for the publication of all 22 volumes of the historic Urdu dictionary.
Speaking at the ceremony, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi said Urdu was the custodian of Pakistan’s national identity, civilisation and cultural heritage.
He said the publication of the historic Urdu dictionary was a national scholarly asset and added that the government would continue to extend all possible cooperation for the promotion of the Urdu language.
The minister said the promotion of Urdu was a national responsibility and described the publication of all 22 volumes of the historic dictionary as an important national service.
Aurangzeb Khan Khichi also said he would recommend Dr Haji Muhammad Rafiq Pardesi for the highest civil award.
He said the National Heritage and Culture Division was playing an effective role through its institutions for the promotion of language, literature and culture.
