Australia and Pakistan advance talks to modernise the Investment Treaty, boosting bilateral investment and economic cooperation.

Senior officials from the Australian High Commission in Pakistan reported strong progress in Islamabad as Australia and Pakistan work to modernise the 1998 Investment Treaty. Discussions this week centred on updating the treaty to reflect current investment priorities and to provide clearer support for cross-border economic activity.

Once finalised, the revised Investment Treaty will support investment and broader economic cooperation between the two countries, offering a firmer basis for Australian and Pakistani investors to pursue new opportunities and partnerships.

The Australian delegation expressed thanks to Minister Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh and his team for the warm reception in Islamabad and highlighted constructive engagement during the talks. Both sides confirmed they will continue consultations until the updated Investment Treaty is concluded.
