A one-day workshop was recently held in collaboration with the Instituto Nacional de Transito y Transporte Terrestre (INTRANT), la Liga Municipal Dominicana (LMD), and CIFAL Dominican Republic to relaunch the Autosobriety Training Programme, an initiative designed to combat drink driving and advance road safety in the Dominican Republic.
The event brought together more than 100 national and international attendees, who participated in a series of expert presentations and dynamic panel discussions addressing the dangers of drink driving and best practices for reducing related incidents. Participants also engaged in hands-on virtual reality training, which provided immersive scenarios to reinforce responsible driving behaviors.
A key component of the workshop was the Training of Trainers session organized for instructors from the Escuela Nacional de Educación Vial de la República Dominicana (ENEVIAL), the country’s national road safety education institution. This training aims to equip educators with the tools and knowledge needed to effectively deliver Autosobriety content throughout the country.
Organizers emphasized that the workshop marks a significant step toward building institutional capacity and fostering a culture of civic responsibility in support of safer roads. The reintroduction of the Autosobriety Training Programme is expected to play a vital role in the nation’s broader efforts to achieve Vision Zero and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals by reducing road fatalities and promoting safe mobility.
