The 40th meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), chaired by the Director General, focused on enhancing collaboration among stakeholders to address biosafety challenges and support regulatory decisions in biotechnology.

During the session, committee members discussed several key topics, including the evaluation of cases related to the import of genetically modified (GM) Canola and GM Soybean Meal for food, feed, and processing. The agenda also covered a proposed field trial for GM Cotton and the import of GM Soybean Grain. These matters are central to Pakistan’s approach to adopting agricultural biotechnology while maintaining strict biosafety standards.

After comprehensive discussions, the TAC agreed to forward its recommendations to the upcoming session of the National Biosafety Committee (NBC), aiming to ensure that regulatory decisions are informed and reflect the country’s commitment to biosafety and responsible innovation in agriculture.
