Islamabad, October 12, 2025 saw the launching ceremony of a Basic Life Support and Basic Trauma Management Course for Palestinian nationals at the Al-Khwarizmi Conference Room of the OIC-COMSTECH Secretariat. The programme is a joint initiative of COMSTECH, Fatima Memorial Hospital and NUR International University and aims to quickly build emergency care capacity among Palestinian medical professionals and youth.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, underlined that capacity development through education and training is one of the most powerful ways to empower communities facing adversity. He described the initiative as both a gesture of solidarity and a long-term investment in human capital and health resilience in Palestine, and extended appreciation to Fatima Memorial Hospital, NUR International University, the OIC and the Representative Office to the State of Palestine for their support.
Prof. Dr. Farooq Anwar, Pro-Vice Chancellor of NUR International University, reiterated the university’s commitment to provide academic and technical support for humanitarian training programmes, while Mr. Tawfiq Khader, Counsellor at the Embassy of Palestine in Pakistan, welcomed the ongoing backing from OIC-COMSTECH and partner institutions. Contributions to the event were also made online by Prof. Dr. Omar Melad, Vice Chancellor of Al-Azhar University Gaza, and Mr. Ahmad Ali Hanoun, Director General of the OIC Representative Office to the State of Palestine, who both expressed gratitude for a course tailored to Palestinian needs.
The one-month online programme follows an urgent need highlighted by recent humanitarian crises in Gaza and is centred on practical modules including Basic Life Support and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, trauma and wound management, spinal and limb immobilization, psychological support and physical rehabilitation. The BLS course is designed specifically for Palestinian nationals so participants can upgrade professional skills and confidence while remaining in their homeland.
COMSTECH said the course reflects its commitment to promote science, technology and innovation across OIC member states with particular focus on supporting the people of Palestine. The collaboration with Fatima Memorial Hospital and NUR International University aims to ensure that trained personnel can provide timely and effective medical response when it matters most.
