National Book Foundation hosted a distinguished literary event in Karachi titled “Literary Connections,” where education minister and MQM-P chairman Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and guest of honor Syed Abid Rizvi joined poets, scholars and public representatives to emphasize the role of books, literacy and cultural activity in national development. Speakers highlighted Karachi’s central role in Pakistan’s economy and urged greater engagement of youth in reading, research and literary pursuits.
The event opened with a panel of prose readings followed by a segment of poetry, both of which received enthusiastic applause from attendees. National Book Foundation Managing Director Kamran Jahangir outlined the foundation’s ongoing initiatives, including plans to establish overseas centers, organize academic competitions for students, present literary awards and expand a “book-lover” outreach program.
Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, attending as guest of honor, stressed that alienation from books and the written word is a primary sign of national decline. He said MQM-P has consistently linked politics with knowledge, awareness and public service, and argued that Karachi’s prosperity is crucial to the country’s overall stability. He urged that the younger generation be encouraged to pursue reading, research and literary activities to build an enlightened and stronger Pakistan.
Distinguished literary figures who presented work included poet and critic Professor Sahar Ansari, Professor Dr. Shadab Ehsani, Professor Noushaba Siddiqui and Dr. Yasmin Sultana Farooq. Their contributions drew strong appreciation from the audience and added to the evening’s cultural depth.
Elected representatives and public figures present included Senator Khalida Ateeb, Sindh Assembly deputy parliamentary leader Taha Ahmed Khan, and members of the national and provincial assemblies Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui, Farhan Chishti, Adil Askari and Ijaz ul Haq. APMSO central in-charge Hafiz Shahryar and his committee, along with teachers and a large number of citizens, also attended.
The program concluded with formal tributes to poets and writers, and participants commended the event’s focus on knowledge and literature as foundations for national progress. Organizers and MQM-P leaders affirmed their commitment to continue promoting education, cultural awareness and public service through similar initiatives.
