Brooklyn Mela Celebrates Pakistan Independence Day and Armed Forces

The Brooklyn Mela, a vibrant festival celebrating Pakistan’s Independence Day, drew a large crowd of Pakistani-Americans from the tri-state area and paid special tribute to the valor of Pakistan’s Armed Forces and their recent successes. The event, hosted by the Allama Iqbal Community Center in New York, highlighted the unity and cultural pride of the community while reaffirming support for the nation’s sovereignty.

Representing the Consul General of Pakistan, Deputy Consul General Umar Sheikh addressed attendees and dedicated this year’s Independence Day to the sacrifices and dedication of Pakistan’s Armed Forces. He specifically noted the recent achievement of Operation “Bunyan al-Marsous,” describing it as evidence of Pakistan’s determination and capability to protect its sovereignty. He stressed that Pakistan seeks peaceful relations but stands ready to defend itself against any aggression.

Mr. Sheikh further praised the Pakistani-American community for its significant contributions through philanthropy, investment, and advocacy, emphasizing that their continued unity and engagement are essential for Pakistan’s progress and prosperity.

The celebration featured live musical performances, children’s shows, and a cultural bazaar offering traditional foods, jewelry, and clothing, giving attendees a joyful taste of Pakistani heritage. Deputy Consul General Sheikh also expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the Allama Iqbal Community Center for organizing the spirited event, which provided a festive, family-friendly environment to mark the national occasion.
