On the second day of the Transforming Care Systems forum hosted by UN Women Pakistan, policymakers, civil society representatives, private sector leaders and development partners met to advance a national roadmap for the care economy. The convening focused on mobilizing investment, shaping policy, and reframing care work as a central driver of gender equality, economic growth and social equity in Pakistan.
Titled Transforming Care Systems: A Roadmap for Economic Growth and Social Equity in Pakistan, the forum brings together diverse stakeholders to assess current care systems and propose concrete reforms. Delegates discussed ways to increase public and private investment in care services, strengthen social protection, and create decent work opportunities for care workers.
Participants emphasized the need to recognize and redistribute unpaid care responsibilities, improve access to affordable, quality care services, and formalize care work to ensure labour protections and fair wages. Discussions also explored policy instruments and financing models that can scale up care infrastructure while promoting inclusion and gender-responsive budgeting.
The forum aims to translate dialogue into actionable commitments and a practical roadmap that informs national planning and investment. Organizers stressed that strengthening care systems is not only a social imperative but also an economic one, with potential to expand labor force participation and boost sustainable growth.
Transforming care today for a stronger, fairer tomorrow.
