The Department of Chemistry at Government College University Faisalabad hosted the opening ceremony of the 23rd International Conference on Chemistry, CHEMCON 2025, under the theme The Role of Chemistry for Sustainable Development. The event focused on how chemistry intersects with applied sciences to advance sustainable solutions and innovation.
Dr. Akim Socohou Moutala attended the ceremony as the representative of Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC COMSTECH, conveying congratulations and best wishes to the organizers. In his address he underlined the fundamental importance of chemistry in a rapidly advancing technological era and praised efforts to promote scientific collaboration across institutions.
Dr. Akim highlighted OIC COMSTECH’s work across its 57 member states and five observer states, noting the organisation’s role in fostering science diplomacy initiatives in Pakistan. His remarks stressed the value of international networks in translating chemical research into sustainable development outcomes that benefit communities locally and regionally.
As the keynote speaker, Dr. Akim presented findings from his postdoctoral research conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, University of Karachi. His presentation, Quantitative Assessment of Biofilm Formation of Staphylococcus spp. Strains Isolated in Hospitals in Benin (West Africa), examined biofilm dynamics of clinical Staphylococcus strains and their implications for antimicrobial strategies.
Hosting CHEMCON 2025 at GCU Faisalabad provides a timely platform for Pakistani researchers, students and policymakers to engage with global peers, translate laboratory insights into practical solutions and reinforce academic partnerships that support sustainable development priorities.
