FDI-led AEFI review affirms Vaccine Safety and calls for continued vigilance, timely investigations, and clear communication to sustain public confidence.

The Expanded Programme on Immunization – Pakistan AEFI National Review Committee met at the Federal Directorate of Immunization in Islamabad under the chair of Dr Soofia Yunus, Director General FDI, to review recent adverse events following immunization. Experts from the Federal Directorate of Immunization, World Health Organization Pakistan, UNICEF Pakistan, the Gates Foundation and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan took part in the session and reaffirmed that AEFI reporting reflects a strong and transparent monitoring system that supports Vaccine Safety across the country.

The committee underlined that robust AEFI surveillance is central to sustaining the effectiveness of immunisation efforts, and stressed the need for continued vigilance by provincial Expanded Programme on Immunization teams. Participants called for timely investigations of reported events, clear communication with health professionals and the public, and close coordination between regulatory and immunisation authorities to preserve public trust in the national immunisation programme.

Members emphasised ongoing collaboration among federal and provincial EPI units, development partners and regulatory bodies to ensure prompt response to AEFI signals and transparent reporting. The review concluded with a renewed commitment to uphold Vaccine Safety through systematic monitoring, open information sharing and rapid follow-up of any safety concerns.
