The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) organized a specialized training session for the management of BE Energy Limited, the Karachi-based oil marketing company and exclusive licensee of Caltex fuels in the country. The session aimed to enhance understanding of competition law and promote fair practices within the oil marketing sector.

The training was led by Ms. Bushra Naz Malik, member of the CCP overseeing Cartel and Trade Abuse, with support from senior officials including Ms. Marryum Pervaiz, Head of Advocacy and Secretary to the Commission, and Ms. Maliha Quddus, Deputy Head of the Cartel and Trade Abuse Department. BE Energy’s HR and Administration General Manager, Mr. Ozair Syed, welcomed the CCP delegation.

During the session, the CCP team shared insights on recent enforcement actions in critical sectors such as public procurement, sugar, fans, and flat steel. These case studies helped illustrate the importance of competition law and the CCP’s proactive role in curbing anti-competitive practices. The training also included an overview of the Competition Act, 2010, with particular focus on deceptive marketing and merger review processes. It was noted that approved mergers had facilitated over 42 billion rupees in foreign direct investment in the previous year.

A dedicated segment discussed cartelization and abuse of dominant market positions, highlighting common risks and compliance measures for industry players. The session concluded with an interactive question and answer session, where BE Energy’s management engaged with the CCP officials on topics related to compliance and the promotion of fair competition practices in the oil marketing sector.
