Two consecutive convocation ceremonies at COMSATS University Islamabad culminated in degrees and medals being conferred on more than 2,300 graduates at the Jinnah Convention Center, with Executive Director COMSATS Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Nafees Zakaria presiding as chief guest. The 47th ceremony recognised 1,160 graduates, including 29 PhD scholars and 26 university medalists for the Fall 2024 session, while the 48th ceremony honoured 1,184 graduates, including 48 PhDs and 54 university medals for Spring 2025.
Rector Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar congratulated the graduates and urged Pakistani youth to prepare for the demands of Industry 5.0, emphasizing that students must continuously adapt to thrive in an evolving skills market. He outlined the university’s intent to foster entrepreneurship so that graduates become job creators, and warned that artificial intelligence is transforming professions and those who do not modernize risk losing relevance.
Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Nafees Zakaria highlighted national resilience and stressed that excelling in science and technology is essential for socio-economic progress and safeguarding sovereignty. He reaffirmed COMSATS’ mission to strengthen science and technology across southern countries such as Pakistan to confront development challenges, and encouraged graduates to launch startups and apply innovative ideas to revive society.
Prof. Dr. Sohail Asghar, incharge campus, noted that during the Fall 2025 semester scholarships amounting to approximately PKR 80 million were disbursed to students. He said the campus now hosts a student body of over 12,500, including some 400 PhD scholars, and reported that publications in the current year have reached 1,759 in the W category so far, reflecting a thriving research culture at the university.
The twin ceremonies were attended by senior university leadership including deans, campus directors and principal officers, alongside faculty, students and families, and concluded with the formal award of degrees and medals. The events underscored COMSATS University Islamabad’s continued commitment to high-quality education, innovative research and preparing graduates for leadership roles in Pakistan’s knowledge economy, with the COMSATS Convocation serving as a focal moment for these ambitions.
