COMSATS University Marks Silver Jubilee

COMSATS University marks 25 years with renewed focus on research, AI and the 6-C Framework to prepare future-ready graduates.

The Silver Jubilee of COMSATS University was celebrated at the Islamabad main campus with a distinguished gathering that included Federal Minister for Science and Technology Khalid Hussain Magsi, senior officials from the ministry, academic leaders and public-sector representatives. The event recognised 25 years of contribution to higher education, research and international collaboration that have shaped the university’s reputation.

The Minister praised COMSATS University for evolving from a visionary concept into a leading higher education institution known for quality teaching, rigorous research and strong global linkages. He commended the leadership of Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar for steps taken to raise academic standards, foster a research culture and implement administrative reforms aimed at transforming the campus into a distinguished research university.

Khalid Hussain Magsi paid special tribute to the faculty, calling teachers the true strength of universities and underlining their role in shaping students’ intellectual and ethical foundations. The Minister urged stakeholders to embrace modern research trends, artificial intelligence and international collaboration as drivers for the next phase of the university’s progress. Mr. Shahid Baloch, Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, attended as Guest of Honor.

Ambassador Nafees Zakaria, Executive Director of the COMSATS Secretariat and Pro-Chancellor (II), reflected on the institution’s transition from the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology to a comprehensive university of national importance and called on the academic community to work collectively toward placing COMSATS University among the world’s top 200 institutions by its Golden Jubilee.

In his address, Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, T.I., described the Silver Jubilee as a moment of collective pride and outlined a curriculum aligned with the 6-C Framework—Coding, Cloud, Cybersecurity, Communication, Creativity and Co-Intelligence—to equip graduates with skills for the global digital economy. He emphasised the growing importance of emerging research trends and artificial intelligence in higher education.

As part of the ceremony, shields were presented on stage to long-serving employees in recognition of their dedication over 25 years, with chief guests participating in the honours. The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s continued support for COMSATS University’s academic and research mission.
