Islamabad: The OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) has awarded Young Women Research Grants to 19 successful researchers from OIC member states, including Malaysia, Benin, Mauritania, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, Egypt and Uzbekistan under the COMSTECH Research Grant Program for Young Women Researchers 2025–26.
The initiative aims to promote scientific excellence and strengthen indigenous research capacity by providing financial assistance for innovative and impactful research projects. Each selected researcher will receive a grant of USD 5,000 to USD 7,000, funds that may be used to purchase scientific equipment, consumables, minor research tools and specialised literature to support project delivery.
A total of 690 research proposals were received from across OIC member states, reflecting strong regional interest and competitiveness. Awards were made after a transparent and rigorous peer review process, with proposals evaluated by independent external experts and the most meritorious applications shortlisted for funding.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH, congratulated the awardees and reiterated the organisation’s commitment to empowering young scientists, particularly women researchers. He encouraged recipients to pursue their work with dedication and innovation to deliver meaningful scientific outcomes for their countries and communities.
The COMSTECH grants form part of ongoing efforts to foster collaboration, reduce brain drain and strengthen the scientific ecosystem across OIC member states. By supporting early-career women researchers, the programme seeks to build sustained research capacity across the region and contribute to inclusive and sustainable development.
