**Prof. Dr. Sammer Yousuf Advances Academic Cooperation During Visit to Universitas Sumatera Utara, Indonesia**
Prof. Dr. Sammer Yousuf, a distinguished faculty member of the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry at the University of Karachi, recently visited Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) in Indonesia under the COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar Program. Her visit underscores ongoing efforts to enhance international academic collaboration and promote scientific research within the Muslim world.
During her stay, Prof. Yousuf met with senior administrators, including the vice rector and director of IGP at USU, marking the start of her academic exchange with the host institution. These discussions laid the groundwork for future joint initiatives and scholarly engagement.
Prof. Yousuf contributed to the university’s academic environment by delivering guest lectures to students and faculty in both the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Natural Sciences. At the Faculty of Pharmacy, her presentation titled “Crystal Engineering: A Promising Approach to Modify Biological Activities” explored the potential of crystal engineering to enhance the biological properties of pharmaceutical compounds. Meanwhile, at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, she spoke on “Medicinal Plant-Based Anti-Leishmanial Leads,” shedding light on the significance of natural products in addressing the public health challenge of leishmaniasis.
The visit, supported by OIC-COMSTECH and facilitated in coordination with institutions such as the University of Karachi and the Indonesian Consulate in Karachi, demonstrates a collaborative commitment to fostering scientific advancement and stronger academic links between Pakistan and Indonesia.
