The Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), together with the University of Modern Sciences (UMS), concluded a two-day Free Medical Camp in Chachro, Tharparkar, delivering vital healthcare services to a remote Sindh community. The camp treated 2,162 patients on the first day and 3,550 on the second, reaching a total of 5,712 beneficiaries and underscoring strong community trust in the Free Medical Camp.
A team of specialist doctors provided consultations across ophthalmology, ENT, dermatology, cardiology, gastroenterology, gynaecology, general surgery and general medicine, while on-the-spot diagnostics ensured prompt assessment and treatment. The camp also supported maternal health with two successful deliveries performed during operations, highlighting the critical role of focused outreach in improving maternal and child care in Tharparkar.
Beyond clinical services, organisers distributed mineral water, juices, clothing, shoes and other essential items to patients and attendants, offering immediate relief to underserved families. These non-medical provisions complemented medical care and helped reduce barriers to attendance for vulnerable residents.
The initiative was organised by COMSTECH and UMS in collaboration with Gourmet Foods, the District Administration Tharparkar and the District Health Department, Government of Sindh. Under the guidance of Coordinator General Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Chachro was prioritised as a site for expanding basic healthcare access and awareness. At the close of the camp, organisers handed over extra medicines to the Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Chachro-Tharparkar to support continuity of care.
Local community members and district officials welcomed the effort as an important step toward narrowing healthcare gaps in remote areas. The successful Free Medical Camp reaffirmed COMSTECH’s commitment to humanitarian service and improving healthcare access for marginalised communities in Sindh.
