On 5 February 2026 the Consulate General of Pakistan in Manchester marked Kashmir Solidarity Day with a well-attended event that brought together members of the UK Parliament, local government leaders, representatives of civil society and academia, media professionals, and the Pakistani and Kashmiri diaspora.
Speakers at the event, including Debbie Abrahams, Afzal Khan, Connor Rand and Lord Wajid Khan, joined senior local government representatives in reaffirming that Jammu & Kashmir remains an internationally recognised dispute. They collectively underscored human rights and humanitarian concerns in IIOJK and urged action in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the right of self-determination.
The gathering reinforced Pakistan’s diplomatic, political and moral support for the Kashmiri people and highlighted the role of sustained international engagement. Speakers and attendees stressed the need for continued parliamentary advocacy and civil society involvement to keep the issue on the global agenda and to pursue a peaceful, negotiated settlement.
The Manchester event reflected a broad cross-section of UK-based voices united by concern for human rights and a commitment to peaceful resolution. Participants noted that ongoing attention from parliamentarians, local leaders and the diaspora is essential to sustaining momentum for meaningful progress on Kashmir Solidarity Day and beyond.
