Transparency International Pakistan (TI-P) and Pakistan’s Ministry of Human Rights (MoHR) have held discussions focusing on enhancing corporate transparency and accountability, particularly regarding financial disclosures, human rights due diligence, and gender equality practices among Pakistani businesses. The meeting emphasized the importance of joint collaboration to encourage companies to implement MoHR’s National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights and to introduce regulatory reforms requiring corporate transparency through mandatory disclosures.
During the meeting, stakeholders analyzed TI Pakistan’s latest report entitled “Transparency in Corporate Reporting,” which assesses private sector compliance regarding financial transparency, human rights practices, and gender non-discrimination. The findings of the report offered clear evidence of the need to enhance corporate reporting mechanisms and accountability measures within Pakistan.
Both organizations recognized the critical importance of raising awareness among businesses regarding their obligations under the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights. They agreed on the necessity of collaborative efforts aimed at sensitizing corporate entities about the value and implementation of human rights-focused practices, transparency of their financial dealings, and adherence to gender equality standards within their operational mandates.
Furthermore, TI Pakistan and the Ministry agreed on the significance of introducing regulatory changes to mandate corporate entities to disclose essential transparency and human rights information within their annual reports. Such reforms, they asserted, would substantially improve accountability, foster ethical corporate practices, and help build public trust in businesses operating in Pakistan.
