CPDI convened a two-day Capacity Building Session on Budget Literacy alongside the CNBA–KP Annual Planning and Review Meeting in Peshawar on November 6–7, 2025, bringing together member organisations of the Citizens Network for Budget Accountability from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The event focused on improving practical understanding of budget literacy among civil society actors to support more informed public engagement with provincial budget processes.
Participants engaged with concepts and tools for gender-responsive budgeting and inclusive budgeting that address the needs of persons with disabilities and other marginalised communities. Sessions emphasized how enhanced budget literacy enables organisations to analyse allocations, track expenditure, and advocate for equitable resource distribution at district and provincial levels.
Alongside training, partners took part in the CNBA-KP annual planning and review meeting to discuss progress, share field experiences, and draft coordinated strategies. The meeting provided a platform for organisations to align priorities, identify capacity gaps, and plan joint actions to improve transparency and accountability across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s budget cycle.
Attendees highlighted participatory accountability tools as key to strengthening citizen participation in public finance decisions. By deepening budget literacy and promoting gender-responsive and inclusive approaches, the network aims to bolster local advocacy, enhance monitoring of public funds, and ensure that marginalised groups are considered in future budget allocations.
The two-day gathering underscored collaborative efforts to translate learning into practice, with partners agreeing on follow-up steps to support community engagement, build technical capacities, and monitor implementation of inclusive budgeting measures across the province.
