The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan held its 58th convocation in Multan, where degrees were conferred on more than 212 specialists, including 174 Fellows and 38 Members. The CPSP Convocation drew senior figures from across the country’s medical community to acknowledge the accomplishments of a new cohort of specialist doctors.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran led by Professor Aamir Zaman Khan, followed by the administration of the professional oath by CPSP Regional Director Multan Professor Ghulam Mujtaba, who urged the new specialists to practise with honesty, integrity and service to humanity.
Chief Guest Professor Rashid Latif Khan, former vice president of CPSP and chairman of Rashid Latif Khan University, praised the institution’s role in advanced medical education and congratulated the Fellows and their families. He encouraged graduates to dedicate their careers to serving suffering humanity with sincerity and dedication.
Guests of honour at the CPSP Convocation included former councillor Professor Haroon Khurshid Pasha and Professor Mehnaz Khakwani, Vice Chancellor of Nishtar Medical University, each of whom lauded the college’s transparent standards and its contribution to strengthening healthcare in Pakistan. Professor Khakwani highlighted that these newly qualified Fellows will infuse the national health system with fresh energy and professional integrity.
In his welcome address, CPSP President Professor Khalid Masood Gondal congratulated the Fellows and their families, attributing this success to the candidates’ efforts and the blessings of Almighty Allah. He underlined CPSP’s growing international recognition, noting acceptance of its postgraduate qualifications in the United Kingdom, Ireland and numerous countries across the Middle East and South Asia, and reiterated CPSP’s mission to expand specialist services for the public.
Former councillor Professor Haroon Khurshid Pasha reflected on CPSP’s historic role since 1962 in advancing postgraduate medical education and expressed hope that the college will continue to illuminate the path of advanced training. The convocation was attended by CPSP office-bearers from all four provinces, heads of medical institutions, senior officers of the Army Medical Corps and a wide cross section of the medical fraternity.
Senior delegates present included the Dean of Children’s Hospital Multan Professor Kashif Chishti, Professor Rashid Rao, Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman, Professor Muhammad Yousaf Bandi Shah, Professor Ghazi Mehmood, Professor Jameel Shaheen and Rana Altaf Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of Mukhtar Sheikh Hospital, alongside proud parents who joined the celebrations.
Degrees were formally conferred by CPSP President Professor Khalid Masood Gondal and Senior Vice President Professor Muhammad Shoaib Shafi. Commemorative shields were presented to the distinguished guests in recognition of their support for postgraduate medical education. The convocation concluded with expressions of gratitude to participants and a group photograph of the Fellows with the CPSP President and Council Members, marking a significant milestone in CPSP’s ongoing contribution to Pakistan’s medical profession.
