ISLAMABAD: Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry has said that timely, credible and verifiable information is vital for building public trust and enabling informed decision-making in the digital age.
He expressed these views while chairing a panel discussion titled “The Value of Information Integrity: Trust, Journalism and Resilience” at a national dialogue on “Access to Information for Enhancing Information Integrity”.
The dialogue was organised by UNESCO Office Pakistan in collaboration with the Press Information Department (PID), CPDI and the National Forum of Information Commissioners (NFIC).
Barrister Danyal said the rapid growth of social media, digital platforms and artificial intelligence had widened access to information, but had also created new challenges, including misinformation, disinformation and AI-generated content.
He stressed the need for responsible journalism, timely government communication, media literacy and ethical use of artificial intelligence to strengthen public confidence in the information ecosystem.
The Parliamentary Secretary said information integrity was a shared responsibility of the government, parliament, media, civil society, academia, technology platforms and citizens.
He said credible information must reach the public promptly so that information gaps were not exploited by false narratives.
Barrister Danyal appreciated UNESCO, PID, CPDI and NFIC for facilitating the dialogue, saying stronger cooperation among stakeholders was essential for a credible, transparent and resilient information ecosystem in Pakistan.
