Provincial health ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique and Khawaja Imran Nazir led a high-level meeting at the Department of Health and Population to review the current status of dengue and other infectious diseases across the province. The session, attended in person by Secretary Health and Population Nadia Saqib and joined remotely by commissioners, deputy commissioners, CEOs, and other medical experts, focused on recent outbreaks, especially following the latest rains.

Officials discussed updated statistics on dengue cases and assessed the effectiveness of ongoing measures to control the spread of the virus. The meeting also reviewed the implementation of directives issued during the previous cabinet committee session.

Khawaja Imran Nazir instructed relevant officers to immediately visit Jhang and directed the CEO Health and Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi to maintain active coordination with Islamabad’s administration. He emphasized that emergency actions continue across the province following recent rainfall, under the strict monitoring mandated by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Khawaja Salman Rafique called for full participation from all departments, stating that fighting dengue successfully is impossible without their active involvement. He urged for special surveillance of scrap yards and graveyards within district limits to minimize breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

The meeting highlighted the need for intensified anti-dengue initiatives and monitoring in high-risk districts. Khawaja Salman Rafique stressed that more effort is required during this dengue season, particularly in vulnerable areas. Khawaja Imran Nazir also instructed commissioners and deputy commissioners to personally oversee anti-dengue measures and ensure that construction sites do not have stagnant water, which can contribute to the spread of infection.
