Denmark Ambassador meets Pakistan's climate minister to discuss science diplomacy, climate finance and plans for a Green University for joint research.

Ms. Maja Mortensen, the Denmark Ambassador to Pakistan, visited the office of Federal Minister Dr. Musadik Malik in Islamabad for talks focused on strengthening science diplomacy and climate cooperation between the two countries. The meeting addressed how scientific collaboration can help navigate the shifting global political landscape while advancing Pakistan’s environmental goals.

Dr. Musadik Malik highlighted the uneven toll of climate change on the Global South, noting that nearly 70 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions stem from just ten countries while roughly 85 percent of green financing is directed to the same group. He stressed the importance of equitable climate finance and partnerships that support vulnerable nations.

The Federal Minister expressed appreciation for the Nordic social welfare models and progressive environmental values that inform Denmark’s climate policies. Both sides exchanged views on current geopolitical developments and their potential impact on international climate action and cooperation.

Dr. Musadik Malik briefed the Denmark Ambassador on Pakistan’s proposal to establish a Green University aimed at promoting joint research initiatives and enabling student and faculty exchanges with leading global institutions. The Green University initiative was presented as a platform to deepen science diplomacy and build practical collaboration on climate resilience.

Both the Denmark Ambassador and the Federal Minister reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying bilateral cooperation, expanding climate finance engagement, and pursuing collaborative science diplomacy efforts that support Pakistan’s transition to a greener, more resilient future.
