To enhance digital proficiency within Punjab’s prosecution services, UNODC, backed by the U.S. Embassy’s Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL), recently organized specialized orientation sessions in Faisalabad and Lahore. These sessions aimed to bridge critical gaps in IT knowledge for prosecutors and administrative personnel, significantly strengthening their capacity to securely utilize advanced judicial management systems.

Conducted under the themes, “Strengthening Digital Foundations for Prosecution Services,” and “Handling IT Equipment and Protecting Devices,” these sessions addressed the urgent need for improved technological literacy and cybersecurity awareness within the Punjab Prosecution Department. Prior to this initiative, many prosecution staff members had limited familiarity with essential IT concepts and cybersecurity practices necessary to effectively operate critical digital tools.

Throughout the training, participants received hands-on instruction aimed at identifying and mitigating common cyber threats, including phishing attacks, malware, ransomware, and hacking attempts. Furthermore, practical knowledge on managing essential hardware such as laptops, printers, and other IT-related equipment was imparted, enabling prosecution staff to operate confidently within a digital environment.

Emphasizing cybersecurity fundamentals, trainers provided detailed guidance on creating and maintaining strong passwords, protecting against viruses, safely navigating the internet, and securely managing and handling sensitive case data. Embracing these best practices and techniques, prosecutors and their administrative support staff are better equipped to safeguard vital case information and digital infrastructure.

Ultimately, these orientation sessions significantly enhanced the foundational digital proficiency of Punjab’s prosecution teams, facilitating the secure and effective management of judicial processes through advanced platforms like the integrated Case Flow Management System (CFMS) and Prisons Management Information System (PMIS). Through this targeted capacity-building endeavor, UNODC and INL have contributed substantially towards building a more resilient, efficient, and responsive justice delivery system in Punjab.
