Dr. Rafey Sher Meets Islamabad Bar Council Candidate Ashraf Gujjar to Discuss Legal Strategy on FMG Crisis

ISLAMABAD – Dr. Rafey Sher, the elected representative of Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), met with Ashraf Gujjar, candidate for the Islamabad Bar Council, to discuss the growing crisis faced by foreign-trained doctors following recent actions by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

Both sides strongly condemned the PMDC’s latest decision, calling it unjust, retrospective, and damaging to thousands of qualified FMGs across the country. The meeting centered on the legal implications of the PMDC move and explored potential constitutional and judicial remedies to protect the professional rights of affected graduates.

Mr. Gujjar assured Dr. Rafey Sher that, if needed, he and his legal team would provide full legal support to the FMG community. He emphasized that no regulatory body should be allowed to undermine the legitimacy of foreign medical degrees recognized under international standards.

Dr. Rafey Sher welcomed this assurance, expressing appreciation for the Bar Council candidate’s stance in defense of merit and justice. He reaffirmed that FMGs will continue engaging legal, parliamentary, and professional forums to ensure that their concerns are addressed through lawful and transparent means.

The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to coordinate efforts to defend the constitutional rights of foreign medical graduates and seek long-term policy reforms to prevent similar injustices in the future.
