The Punjab government has announced significant measures to strengthen the Environmental Protection Force (EPF) and implement fog cannons in hotspot districts across the province, enhancing its strategy to address industrial pollution and smog.

In a recent meeting chaired by Secretary of Environment Protection and Climate Change Department (EP&CCD), the participants discussed expanding the Environmental Protection Force’s operations into 10 pollution-intensive hotspot districts in Punjab. The enhanced force will specifically target key polluting sectors including industries, brick kilns, incinerators, fugitive dust, hospital waste, plastic waste, and wastewater management. This intensified approach aims to curb environmental degradation and reduce public health risks associated with pollution.

Additionally, an in-depth briefing was provided to Secretary EP&CCD regarding the operational plans for deploying 15 fog cannons. These fog cannons are designed to suppress fugitive dust and tackle smog, a major source of poor air quality in Punjab. Scheduled for installation along pollution hotspot routes, these devices are expected to significantly mitigate air pollution and improve air quality for residents across severely affected districts.

These decisions form part of the government’s comprehensive policy initiative focused on protecting public health and ensuring sustainable environmental practices across Punjab.
