EPA PMD Coordination Secured for Smog Season

EPA PMD coordination will enable real-time data sharing and stronger AQI forecasting to manage smog season 2025-26 across Punjab.

Director General Environmental Protection Agency Imran Hamid Sheikh, accompanied by Additional Secretary (Technical) Tayyab Zia, visited the Pakistan Meteorological Department Lahore and held discussions with Abdul Aziz, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre Lahore.

The agencies agreed to establish an EPA desk at PMD Lahore to ensure real-time data access and operational coordination. The move is intended to enhance EPA PMD coordination so that meteorological inputs can be used more effectively in air quality analysis and response.

Officials focused on strengthening AQI forecasting and analysis ahead of the smog season 2025-26, with PMD committing technical support and timely sharing of meteorological data. Close collaboration between the EPA, provincial authorities in Punjab and PMD was emphasised as a practical step toward improved smog management and public health protection.
