**Pakistan and Ethiopia Strengthen Green Partnership with Plantation Ceremony in Islamabad**
Pakistan and Ethiopia reaffirmed their commitment to environmental cooperation during a special Green Legacy Forum and Plantation Ceremony held at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) in Islamabad. The event, organized under Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative launched by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, highlighted growing ties between the two nations in the fight against climate change.
Addressing participants, Secretary of the Ministry of National Food Security & Research, Mr. Amir Muhyuddin, commended Ethiopia’s environmental leadership and its progress under Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed. He praised Ethiopia’s achievements, including increasing national forest cover from 17% to 24% and commissioning one of Africa’s largest hydropower projects, which now powers much of East Africa.
The Secretary described Ethiopia as a global model for climate action and emphasized the importance of replicating such initiatives worldwide. He noted Ethiopia’s unique history as the only African nation never colonized, suggesting that its enduring resilience is reflected in its ambitious approach to climate challenges.
Mr. Muhyuddin stressed that practical steps, rather than rhetoric, are needed to confront the existential threat posed by climate change. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to building a climate-resilient future through sustained international partnerships, underlining that shared efforts are essential to achieving environmental sustainability.
Highlighting the historical and spiritual bond between the two nations, the Secretary referenced Hazrat Bilal Habshi (RA), symbolizing the deep-rooted connection between Ethiopia and the Muslim world. He called on both countries to strengthen their collaboration and take collective action for a greener, more sustainable future.
